Hope Restored Canada

Hope Restored Canada (HRC) is an organization based in Saskatoon that offers comprehensive support to those impacted by sexual exploitation and trafficking, including cis and trans women and Two-Spirit individuals.  Their H.O.P.E approach includes:

  • Holistic Restoration: Providing recovery strategies, support groups, safe housing, and cultural reconnection.
  • Outreach: Offering referrals, social supports, and transportation to individuals in need.
  • Partnerships: Collaborating with affiliate organizations, service providers, and investors.
  • Education: Providing awareness and training to the public and frontline workers to dispel myths and stereotypes.

Within Saskatchewan, where trafficking rates exceed the national average, HRC provides vital support.  Their unique human trafficking-specific residential program, the only one of its kind in the province, offers a safe haven for women, trans women, and Two-Spirit individuals who have experienced sexual exploitation and trafficking or are at risk, focusing on addressing their recovery needs as they transition away from lives of abuse.  The program offers trauma-informed healing, cultural education, and skill-building for up to 12 months (or longer), with 24-hour staff support.

In addition to their residential program HRC provides a variety of day program classes aimed at promoting holistic wellness and personal growth.

HRC also has an outreach program that is designed for women, trans women, and Two-Spirited individuals actively involved in the sex industry or having suffered domestic abuse, offering service referral, peer support, and a safe space to decompress from everyday realities.

Why This Matters?

In 2021, Saskatchewan had rates of human trafficking that were 1.8 times higher than the national average.  More specifically, Saskatoon reported 336 percent more incidences (4.6 incidents per 100,000) of human trafficking to police than the national average (1.4 incidents per 100,000).

HRC reports indicate much higher rates of sexual exploitation and human trafficking of Indigenous women among the people they serve.  Newcomers, those within the welfare system, and members of the LGBTQ2S+ community are also overrepresented in the sex industry cases they see.
